HRC Trail Work Party June 16, 2018

Project Overview
In late 2017, Trail 133 (Borderline) was adversely impacted by construction of the Eagle Creek Fire Line. Borderline is a popular route with multiple user groups and is an important link within the County’s trail system. The trail has been partially repaired and recently adopters, volunteers, and County OHV staff have reflagged changes to sections of the route.

OMRA (Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association) has stepped up to the plate and offered to fund the rental of a small excavator for the project!  Thank you OMRA! The small excavator will aid the Forestry Department’s larger excavator for the reconstruction project. Jordan Rhinevault and Jason Wells will be the excavator operators. It is hoped that this volunteer work party will complete the project so it can be reopened to the public immediately afterwards.

Work Day Objective
Complete the rerouting and reconstruction of Borderline so it is up to motorcycle standards and works for users as it did in the past.

Place to Meet
Meet at Post Flats Staging Area. The work party leader will take everyone to the project location. See the attached map that shows the location of 133 in relation to Post Flats Staging Area. See the Driving Directions below. 

Date
Saturday June 16th, 2018.

Time 
Meet at the staging area at 9:00am. The work party will start shortly after that. The work party will end at approximately 1:00pm.

Late Comers
If late, drive south on Post Canyon Road and follow the signs to the work party vehicle parking location. You can then walk to the work location by following the additional signs. You will drive south on Post Canyon Road from Post Flats Staging Area for approximately 2.1 miles and turn right onto Riordan Hill Road. Drive westward on Riordan Hill Road for approximately 0.8 miles and make a right turn onto the 1004 Road. Park at the wide turn-a-round, which is at 0.3 miles.

Equipment/Tools 
Hand tools (loppers, rakes, shovels, Pulaskis, McLeods, hoes, etc.) and a mechanical compactor will be provided but feel free to bring tools of your own.

Things to Bring 
The usual; coffee, water, snacks, work clothes, rain gear (just in case), sturdy boots, gloves, safety glasses, hat, sunscreen, etc! 

After the Work Party
Bring your motorcycle, bicycle, or running shoes and plan on riding/running Borderline and adjacent trails after the work party has ended.

Volunteer Hours
Your volunteer hours will be used to help satisfy requirements for the County’s current Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s ATV Operations and Maintenance grant. This will be a big help for the County’s Trail Program by bringing the loop up to appropriate standards, making it safer, and making it a lot more fun to use!

Driving Directions to Post Flats Staging Area
1) From I-84 eastbound take Exit 62. Turn right onto Cascade Avenue. Travel approximately 300 feet and make a right turn onto Mt. Adams Avenue (Mt. Adams Avenue turns into Wine Country Avenue which turns into Country Club Road). Drive for ~1.6 miles. Turn right onto Post Canyon Road (once it becomes gravel the road is rough with potholes and becomes steep). Travel ~2.7 miles to the staging area. The staging area is on both sides of the road. 

2) From I-84 westbound take Exit 62 and turn left onto Cascade Avenue. Follow the remainder of the directions above. This staging area offers semi-improved parking facilities and is located on Hood River County Forestry Department property. This staging area is day use only, has been rocked, and is large enough to accommodate equestrian trailers.
