RIDER INPUT NEEDED TO SAVE CHRISTMAS VALLEY OHV!
OHV ACCESS – RIDER ACTION NEEDED!
The BLM needs to hear from all types of OHV users BEFORE THIS THURSDAY!
To stop the Christmas Valley dunes closure, click this link (or BLM web address) RIGHT NOW and tell them to leave these dune areas open to cross-country OHV use and go with Alternative D.
Just type your comment, including that you want alternative D, and add your name – that’s it.
In a short note – one or two sentences are fine – tell them these historic central Oregon dunes areas should stay open for cross-country OHV use. Nothing fancy! Don’t worry about spelling. Get an email, in your own words, in their inbox today!
New Resource Management Plan choices are on the table, and the public comment period closes this Thursday. This cool, well-managed OHV opportunity (that brings tourist dollars to a very isolated community) can stay open to dune riding if enough of YOU send emails telling them how we feel.
Even if you’ve never ridden there, you MUST PITCH IN NOW. For one thing, any closure is a win for the other side. We can’t let even one domino fall. Thanks to your help in the past, the OMRA has repeatedly preserved opportunities for OHVs - dirt bikes, Jeeps, side-by-sides, quads - so let’s keep that momentum!
A closure will push side-by-side users out of this fun dune opportunity and into nearby areas like East Fort Rock or Prospect. These beloved areas CANNOT TAKE more concentrated use! That’s the oldest trick in the book. Push OHV use into heavily concentrated areas and then say, “Look at the damage!”
· For decades, YOU have invested hundreds of thousands ofYOUR ATV FUND DOLLARS in making Christmas Valley dunes a safe, environmentally sustainable riding area. Our investment is worth defending!
· The Christmas Vally dunes are a rare opportunity for that region. The Oregon coastal dunes are far from the central Oregon population, making them inaccessible for people without a ton of money.
· The Christmas Valley community needs OHV tourist dollars to avoid becoming a ghost town.
· WE SUPPORT managed OHV use on designated routes, wherever designated routes matter for the environment, all over the state! The dunes ARE NOT that type of environment. These Dunes repeatedly heal and renew themselves. The dunes easily and naturally sustain open, cross-country travel.
· Side-by-side users do not have enough opportunities that are specifically good for those vehicles. We DO NOT WANT TO OVER-BURDEN OTHER OHV AREAS, which will happen if riders can no longer ride the Christmas Valley dunes.
· BLM planners in this region have been very supportive in the past, but they need your help now to get a pro-OHV outcome at this late stage of their planning process. If they don’t hear from enough of us in favor of alternative D, they will not be able to say that anyone cares about losing these dunes.
