GETTING STARTED
RACING WITH THE OMRA IN 2025
Racing with the OMRA is easy! All you really need is a reliable dirt bike, all the usual riding gear (helmet, boots, eye protection, gloves at a minimum), and the desire to have a good time on a dirt bike with a bunch of like-minded riders.
NO COMPETITION MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED IN 2025: Show up. Race. Earn points. It's that easy! This year $5 from each of your race entry fees comes back to the OMRA to assist in our legislative efforts, purchase year end awards, and fund trail work party days. No more buying a competition membership in order to earn points for the year.
OMRA SANCTIONED RACES
The OMRA sanctions two types of races:
Enduro: Enduro races feature longer courses, both in terms of length and time spent on the bike. Courses vary from open desert-type conditions to wooded single-track trails; and oftentimes a combination of both. Loop lengths can range from 30-100 miles. These are typically referred to as ISDE-style races or Hybrid ISDE races. Details for each event can be found on the event page.
GP (Grand Prix): GP races are shorter, often include some motocross terrain, and generally last about 1.5 hours.
GETTING STARTED
Beginner Class: Ideal for those new to racing or off-road riding.
Amateur Classes: Suited for riders with more experience or those who have raced before. Riders can join by age group or engine size.
Expert Classes: Perfect for seasoned racers wanting to compete at a higher level.
AA Class: Reserved for top-level expert racers, promoted by the OMRA or AMA.
RACING CONDITIONS
Races occur in all types of conditions—heat, cold, rain, mud, and dust. Off-road races are rarely canceled due to weather, so it's helpful to practice in various environments. Physical conditioning is key for success. Cardio exercises, rowing, cycling, and upper-body strength training are beneficial, especially at the higher levels of the sport.
